Nominations for all awards below are open to the public. The deadline for all nominations is January 29, 2017. Please direct nominations with materials to VSSA.

For a nomination to be considered by the VSSA Board awards committee, nominators must submit at least one detailed nominating letter (3-5 letters is best) along with the nominee’s CV, contact information (address, email, and telephone), as well as any other relevant materials (publications, websites, online news reportage/coverage of the nominee’s work/success, etc.).

The nominating materials must be received at the email address above by January 29, 2017 to be considered. Please indicate in body of email nomination whether or not the nominee will in fact be able to attend our April 2, 2017 annual meeting at Virginia Commonwealth University (for a nominee to be considered, they must be able to attend the annual meeting. See individual award descriptions for award criteria). Please put “AWARD Nomination” in the email subject heading.

Student paper awards:

Faculty members are urged to encourage their graduate and undergraduate students to submit scholarly papers for the “Best Paper” competitions; Best Undergraduate Paper or Best Graduate Paper.  Papers will be considered for an award only if the paper proposal is accepted for the program.  Faculty endorsement is also required for award consideration. The winner of the graduate award will receive $500 and the undergraduate award winner will receive $250. Winners will be announced publicly at the annual meeting and winners will receive their awards at the annual meeting luncheon.  The winner must be present to receive award.

The requirements for consideration of full papers for student paper awards are:

(1.) Maximum length (text and notes): 25 standard double-spaced pages.

(2.) Submissions for a prize must be endorsed by a faculty member.

(3.) Student submissions must be accompanied by a cover page that supplies all the following information: Name of author, title of paper; college/university, graduate or undergraduate, year in school, major, phone, email, mailing address; name and contact information of the faculty member endorsing the paper.
